Learn French With Practice Tests on My Path
Most people already "practise French." They dip into an app, watch a video, maybe open a news site, and have no idea whether written French at B1 is actually in reach. A practice test is a different tool: a sitting with a chosen CEFR band, a fixed length, a score, and an error list you can retry. Used that way, tests are not a final exam. They are a weekly instrument.
My Path's General French product is a CEFR-shaped bank of about 576 items: vocabulary, grammar, reading, and writing, A1–C2. No listening, no speaking. One CEFR band per sitting. This article is how to learn with those sittings rather than collect percentages. The product overview is the French practice test from A1 to C2. Skill deep-dives: grammar, reading, vocabulary.
Tests as learning, not as a verdict
A single score is a snapshot. Learning is what you do with the misses. The Education session review is built for that: correct / wrong / skipped, retry wrong, retry flagged, full retake, optional AI gap analysis if your plan and tokens allow it.
Rules that keep the snapshot honest:
- Skip when you do not know. Guessing right teaches you nothing and dirties the log.
- Flag when you hesitated. Hesitation is a preview of a future miss.
- Keep the Level still for a week. Changing band every sitting is how you stay lost.
- Separate skills when you diagnose. A blended 60-question paper can wait until the holes have names.
My Path will not mix CEFR bands in one sitting. If you select several, you still get one. That constraint is the feature. See why bands matter.
What you are practising — and what you are not
You are practising written French against a closed, CEFR-shaped bank. You are not practising oral fluency. You are not sitting DELF or DALF. My Path is not affiliated with France Éducation international. Official oral and listening papers do not exist in this catalogue, and we will not pretend they do.
Writing in the bank is written production items, not a human marker. Use it as pressure on the forms you recognised in grammar and vocabulary. If you need a teacher on a long essay, that is another relationship.
Education is also not IQ and not a personality test. Those are other shelves. Education on My Path is the map of the Practice hub.
A four-week loop that fits a job
Assume two to four sittings a week, 20 questions default, timer off until the band is stable.
Week 1 — place the floor. One mixed or unfiltered sitting at the band you suspect, review at end. Then one skill sitting for whichever failed hardest. Do not go up a level this week.
Week 2 — name the systems. Grammar sitting if forms failed; vocabulary if items were lexical; reading if paragraphs failed. Retry wrong/flagged between sittings. Write a three-line list of recurring holes. That list is the curriculum.
Week 3 — transfer. Reading sitting at the same band even if you lived in grammar all week. Then writing items. Transfer is the difference between "I knew it on the grammar paper" and "I can still see it in a text."
Week 4 — measure. One 20- or 60-question sitting at the same band, review at end, maybe a timer if you want pressure. Compare miss types to week 1. If the same three systems dominate, you do not need a new app. You need more retries on those systems. If the list has changed and scores are boringly high, consider the next CEFR band — next month, not tonight.
Session controls to use on purpose: size 10 / 20 / 60; timer off / relaxed / exam; feedback immediate or at end; navigation free or forward-only. Immediate feedback is for drill days. End review is for measure days. Do not mix those intentions in one sitting and then distrust the number.
What to do between sittings
The sitting is 10–20 minutes. The learning is the ten minutes after, and the retry the next day.
After you finish, write three bullets, not a journal. "Agreement with preceding object." "depuis vs il y a." "Read the last sentence." Tomorrow's retry is those bullets, not a new band. If you cannot write three bullets, you guessed too much or the Level is wrong.
Between sittings, a small amount of authentic French at the same band is useful. A huge binge of C1 video after an A2 paper is not a method. Keep input roughly at the Level you are measuring. The bank cannot hear a podcast; do not pretend a listening streak is progress on this product. There is no listening skill here, and there is no speaking skill. Oral work belongs in another tool. Written work belongs in this one.
If you only have time for one thing, retry wrong items. A new 60-question paper with no retry is entertainment. Size 60 is for a denser sample when the band is already stable, not for a heroic first evening.
Skip stays useful all month. "I don't know" is a legal answer. A guessed green mark will not appear on the retry-wrong list, which is the list you actually need.
Writing in the same loop
Writing is the fourth skill in General French. It is the one people skip because recognition sittings feel safer. Put one writing-focused sitting in week 3 of the four-week loop, same CEFR band. You will score lower than on vocabulary. That gap is the difference between knowing a form and assembling it.
Do not expect a paragraph rubric from a human. Expect items that force production-like choices. After that sitting, send failures back to grammar or vocabulary — whichever actually broke — rather than "practising writing" in the abstract.
If writing is your only goal (emails at work), still start with a grammar and vocabulary diagnosis at that band. You cannot produce what you cannot recognise reliably. Then add writing sittings twice a week, not instead of the diagnosis. Check transfer with a reading paper so you are not only generating sentences you would never have to parse.
Failure modes
Tourist band hopping. A2 on Monday, B2 on Wednesday, because Wednesday felt confident. The scores cannot be compared. Stop. One band per sitting is not only a product rule; it is the only way a week of scores means anything.
App stacking. My Path plus three flashcard decks plus a grammar PDF, none of them retried. Pick the bank for measurement. Use one other source for volume.
Score chasing. Immediate feedback, easy band, 90%, screenshot. That is not the Education product. Turn feedback to end-of-session, stay on the honest band, live with 60% while the miss list shrinks.
Official-exam cosplay. Treating each sitting as if it were an official diploma paper. It is not. Use official materials from the actual body if you need that format. Use My Path to keep written skills at a named CEFR level between those papers. We are not that body and we do not sell that diploma.
Plan confusion. Buying For Me because it is cheaper, then wondering where French went. Education is Student or Monthly — the plan table later in this article is the whole story.
Mastery, streaks, and AI — in that order
Per-topic mastery with complexity 1–5 is the long memory of the bank. Topic master at 80% is a threshold. Streaks (including 7-day) and other badges (first lesson, perfect score, exam ready, polyglot) are optional. If the flame is the only reason you sit, you will sit easy bands forever.
AI gap analysis is a comment on your misses, not a tutor who can hear you. Use it when the error sample is real. Tokens come with the plan; sittings themselves are the Education entitlement, not a per-test purchase.
Student vs Monthly vs the plans that skip Education
French practice lives behind Education. Only Student and Premium Monthly include it. For Me (€4.99) and Around Me (€9.99) include zero Education. Around Me is not a "step up" from Student; it is a different product at the same €9.99: people you track, not exam prep. Student = For Me personality tests + unlimited Education. No People/child profiles on Student. No priority support (that is Monthly). No Student trial.
| Plan | Price | Education | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| For Me | €4.99/month | none | 100 tokens, 3-day €0 trial |
| Student | €9.99/month | unlimited | 250 tokens, no trial |
| Around Me | €9.99/month | none | 250 tokens, 3-day €0 trial |
| Premium Monthly | €19.99/month | unlimited | 2000 tokens, 7-day €1.99 trial |
GBP mirrors EUR. PLN: zł24.99 / 49.99 / 99.99. Get Student — €9.99/month — if Education is why you are here. Full comparison: plans and Student plan. Signup grace does not open the French bank.
How French sits next to English, German, and Spanish
The live language practice tests share the grid: ~576 items (English ~577), four written skills, CEFR A1–C2, one band per sitting. If you already use General English, German, or Spanish, you already know the UX. Do not copy your English band onto French. Cognates help reading and betray you in vocabulary.
Maths on the same Education hub uses Grade, not Level. Kangaroo is practice on a past-paper-style bank, not a language exam. Keep the axes straight.
Retired qualifications (including various school-leaving and English-exam names you might hope to find) are not live. Do not plan a French journey around a catalogue we turned off.
What practice tests cannot do
They cannot give you a conversation partner. They cannot mark a 300-word essay with human judgement. They cannot certify you for a visa, a university, or an employer who wants an official diploma. They cannot hear your pronunciation.
They can make written French measurable at a named CEFR band, four skills at a time, with retries and a mastery bar. If your current method has no error log, that is already an upgrade.
About 576 items means you will loop. Looping is how memory works. When repeats feel stale, read authentic French at the same band for volume, then return to the bank for a measure. Do not abandon measurement because a newspaper felt more "real." Real text without a sitting is how people confuse exposure with control.
We will not say this will get you into university. Admissions are their own process. We will say: pick a band, sit 20, retry misses, check the skill that actually failed, repeat for a month, then decide whether the next band is earned.
A first sitting you can finish today
You do not need a four-week plan to start. You need one honest paper.
- Get the entitlement if you do not have it: plans. Student is the Education-shaped €9.99 option.
- Open Education. Practice shelf. General French.
- Choose one CEFR Level — if unsure, one below your ego.
- 20 questions, timer off, review at end.
- Tomorrow, retry wrong and flagged. Do not change band.
Then use the skill articles when the miss list has a name. Use this loop when you catch yourself sitting random quizzes with no Level and no retry.
Limits, said plainly
My Path is an assessment platform. Education is exam preparation. General French is one live practice test in that catalogue, On for Student and Monthly subscribers. Beta-only admin catalogues are not your problem. What you see on the hub is what you can sit.
The brand is My Path, not a career-site alias. Prices above are EUR with GBP and PLN counterparts. There is no USD-only list in this article because that is not how the plans are quoted.
If you wanted a miracle course, this is the wrong page. If you wanted a CEFR-shaped French bank with four written skills and a sitting you can repeat, start on Education and, if you still need access, plans. Get Student — €9.99/month — then practise the band you are in.
